Hamas Says It’s Open to Agreements on a Permanent Ceasefire in Gaza

Gaza:

Hamas stated that it is open to any agreement or idea to achieve a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said in a televised speech on Tuesday that the movement is open to any agreement or idea that would end the suffering of the people in Gaza and establish a permanent ceasefire, Xinhua news agency reported.

Abu Zuhri added that the agreement or ideas should include the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the entire Gaza Strip, the lifting of the blockade and the provision of aid, support and shelter to the population, as well as reconstruction and the provision of a serious prisoner. swap agreement.

He added that the movement responded to mediators’ requests to discuss new proposals regarding a ceasefire and prisoner exchanges. The Hamas official stated that his group has held some meetings on this issue and new meetings will continue.

On Sunday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced a two-day ceasefire offer in Gaza to exchange four Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, with negotiations for a permanent ceasefire planned to be held within ten days.

Sisi’s announcement comes as efforts to restart ceasefire negotiations in Gaza continue. A Hamas delegation recently discussed “ways to overcome the obstacles” to a ceasefire in Cairo.

Since the start of the conflict between Hamas and Israel in October last year, Egypt, Qatar and the United States have been trying to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza.

Many meetings on this issue have been held in Doha and Cairo in recent months, but no serious agreement was reached to end the conflict that has been going on for a year.
