Convenience and flexibility are causing more voters in Shawnee Co to choose enhanced voting.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Steady flow of voters coming through the election Shawnee Co. Electoral Office It’s unlike anything they’ve seen in years.

“I don’t think there’s been a day yet where we haven’t had at least two thousand voters and more than two thousand voters every day, so I’ll say that’s double what we’re used to seeing here,” he said. Usually we’ll see one or two days with a peak of 1,500 voters, but we’re seeing 3,000, 2,700, 2,500 voters. Big days happen every day; “It’s definitely a record.”

“There’s a lot of energy and excitement in the races this year, especially at the presidential level, but even at the local level, even at the state level — I think Kansans understand that we have a real opportunity to get back to two-party government. Republicans and Democrats are working on opposite sides of the aisle,” Kelly said.

Advanced voters, especially those in college or in the workforce, said early opportunities gave them greater accessibility.

“Democracy is important to me in this country, so I think it’s really important that we have the opportunity to vote,” advanced voter Ava Dunekack said. “I spent five minutes here and it was really quick and easy and everyone was so nice, so I feel like there’s no reason not to do it; it’s like five minutes out of the day and you get to speak your mind for our country.”

It has become more and more important over the years, and this year it seems really important, at least to me,” said advanced voter Carson Klingerman.

Howell said it’s well known that many people will still go to the polls to vote on Election Day. But the number in Shawnee Co. may not be that serious.

The Election Office will be open until 19:00 on Thursdays and Fridays and until noon on Mondays.

The office and other polling places will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
