Oakland Co. 3 people charged in connection with MP’s death

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Wednesday announced charges against three suspects in connection with the death of an Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy in Detroit this summer.

Investigators identified 18-year-old Marquis Lamar Goins of Detroit and 18-year-old Karim Blake Moore and Raymone Raylee Debose of Clinton Township as suspects after reviewing extensive evidence, Worthy told media at Wednesday’s press conference.

Authorities expect Goins, Moore and Debose to be arraigned Wednesday via Zoom in 36th District Court, the prosecutor’s office said.

While Deputy Bradley Reckling, 30, was undercover investigating a stolen SUV near Park Grove and Schoenherr Avenue in Detroit, Debose allegedly fired a handgun from the stolen car and was fatally shot Comeback on June 22.

Emergency responders took Reckling to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to the release. Reckling was shot in the head and torso, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told the media in June.

At the briefing, Worthy said Goins and Moore were allegedly in the car with Debose at the time of the shooting.

Debose was charged with multiple crimes, including murder of a police officer, taking and concealing a motor vehicle, carjacking and criminal enterprise, according to the release.

The first charge could give Debose a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole or at least 60 years in prison, Worthy’s office said.

Debose was also charged with four counts of carrying a concealed weapon and three counts of using a firearm to commit a felony.

Goins and Moore were charged after the incident with accessory to a felony and taking and concealing a motor vehicle.

Two Clinton Township residents were also charged with attempted criminal conduct and each of carrying a concealed weapon, among other charges.

“Holding individuals accountable for the senseless murder of Deputy Brad Reckling is one of our top priorities,” Bouchard said in the statement. “We appreciate all the work done to date by the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and look forward to the perpetrators receiving the maximum sentence possible. While this will never fill the void of the husband, father, son, brother and friend of so many, it will at least provide some measure of justice.”

Investigators believe Reckling was aware of an auto theft ring involving suspects in November 2023 and was investigating ring-related crimes the day of the shooting, Worthy said.

According to investigators, the auto theft ring committed crimes between cities in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Bouchard told reporters in June that he believed Reckling’s death was an ambush.

Reckling was one of three detectives from OCSO’s auto theft unit who searched for the car in Detroit.

Authorities said he survived with his pregnant wife and three children.
