ICAR-IIAB Ranchi organizes Rice Field Day

ICAR-IIAB Ranchi organized a Field Day on “Direct Seeded and Transplanted Rice” under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) on 29 October 2024. The event aimed to create awareness among farmers about direct seeded rice and improved rice varieties. There was also a focus on disseminating information on the use of early maturing rice varieties to optimize the use of fallow land during the rabi season and increase crop density.

ICAR-IIAB Ranchi Director Dr. Sujay Rakhsit urged farmers to grow high-yielding, drought-tolerant rice varieties to improve their livelihoods and increase their income. He emphasized the importance of using quality seeds and adopting integrated farming systems for optimum resource utilization. He also noted that scientists are working diligently to develop high-yielding rice varieties suitable for direct seeding conditions.

Earlier, ICAR-IIAB Ranchi Joint Director (Research) Dr. Vijai Pal Bhadana addressed farmers and underlined that direct seeded rice is a valuable tool to alleviate the challenges arising from climate change. He encouraged farmers to carefully observe the allocated materials and select suitable lines based on their experience. The participant also explained the importance of plant breeding.

More than 100 tribal farmers from nearby villages participated in the programme, which was coordinated by Dr Avinash Pandey, Dr Sudhir Kumar, Dr Jayanta Layek and Dr Khela Ram Soren from ICAR-IIAB in Ranchi.
