Baton Rouge man sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in 2021 shooting case

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in connection with a crime. July 2021 shooting caused the death of one person.

Charles Wade, 28, of Baton Rouge, was sentenced to five years in prison for involuntary manslaughter, 10 years in prison for aggravated assault with a firearm and three years in prison for domestic abuse by endangering children, according to East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore.

According to Moore, the 10-year prison sentence for aggravated assault with a firearm will be suspended once Wade is released from prison because this will be his first conviction.

Once released from prison, Wade will be placed on active supervised probation for five years with various conditions, including $9,000 for funeral expenses, Moore said.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the assault occurred around 10 a.m. on July 16, 2021, in the 2200 block of Harelson Street. Shootout, Darryl Weber Jr. (32) was the result of an argument between Wade and another unnamed person. Police said Wade shot Weber during the argument.

Wade surrendered to authorities. He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and initially charged with involuntary manslaughter. A charge of second-degree murder was filed against him in September 2021, according to court documents.
