Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center raises predator awareness during Halloween

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center wants parents to be aware of potential predators ahead of Halloween celebrations tomorrow.

Registered sex offenders are required to keep porch lights off and cannot use Halloween decorations at all, according to Potter, Randall and the Armstrong County probation office.

“Our previous administrator implemented this program years ago called Operation Lights Out. We’ve been doing this well for over 15 years, and it’s a program that I think benefits the community,” said Natalie White, Potter, Randall and Armstrong County CDSD director.

No matter their age, knowing where your child is and educating them not to approach these homes is one of the best ways to keep them safe while on vacation, says Köprü.

“Because even older children and young teenagers can and do become victims. So these children need supervision and guidance on where they should and shouldn’t go,” said Shelly Bohannon, Executive Director of The Bridge Children’s Advocacy.

Bridge offers community classes for parents and works with area schools to educate children about the dangers of predators.

“It is parents’ responsibility to give children the names of body parts so they know what special places are, and our agency also offers a ‘Play It Safe’ program in school zones and other places where children congregate.” said Bohannon.

According to White, extra officers will be on patrol to ensure sex offenders meet requirements to protect children and families in our community.
