Livingston County launches GIS-powered map to track $12 million in ARPA-funded projects

The Livingston County Planning Department has introduced a new interactive map that allows residents to track and explore county projects funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Designed with geographic information system (GIS) technology, the ARPA project map provides a visual overview of community investments in Livingston County, highlighting how one-time federal recovery funds are being used to promote local economic resilience and community development.

The county has generated over $12 million in revenue through ARPA, which has been funneled into parks, recreation and tourism projects, improvements to county facilities, and community investment initiatives. Accessible from the Planning Department’s website, the GIS-enabled map provides interactive satellite images and detailed descriptions of each project site.

“Our ARPA project map truly demonstrates the power of geospatial technology in increasing transparency and community engagement,” said Deputy Planning Director Heather Ferrero. “By visualizing these projects, we provide residents with a user-friendly tool to understand the positive impacts ARPA investments are having in our communities. It is a way for residents to stay informed and connected to local government initiatives.”

Parks, recreation and tourism

Each of the county’s 17 towns received $20,000 in ARPA funding for improvements aimed at enhancing parks, recreation or tourism. Major projects highlighted on the site include the renovation of Avon’s historic Opera Block auditorium, improvements to Caledonia’s baseball facilities and the addition of a new playground at West Sparta city park.

ARPA funds also support improvements to county infrastructure. Investments include $150,000 for job training and workforce development initiatives under the Office of Workforce Development and $775,000 for improvements to the county’s IT infrastructure and cybersecurity through the Information and Technology Services department.

Among its new community investment projects, Livingston County has launched a “Festival and Events Fund,” an annual grant program to support local nonprofits, community organizations, and tourism-related businesses in promoting large-scale festivals and events throughout the county.

The Planning Department’s ARPA project map aims to bridge the gap between government initiatives and public understanding by providing transparency into how federal funds transform local communities.
