Australia’s scariest states revealed

Towards the spooky season, Affordable Urns I did some research Australia’s most haunted places and the results are chilling. They found more than 250 reports of paranormal activity across the country; the top three states accounted for more than 75 percent of all ghost sightings. Well!

Things are particularly spooky in New South Wales, Australia’s oldest state, which tops the charts as the country’s most haunted state with 91 paranormal activities. Researchers attribute this high rate of ghostly activity to the state’s “long history of colonial settlement, convict transportation, and urban development” and argue that its troubled past “leaves a lasting supernatural imprint.”

With 17 paranormal events concentrated in Sydney, the capital of NSW takes the top spot as Australia’s most haunted city. For anyone who has visited Manly’s Quarantine StationIt’s no surprise that this spooky site is the most quoted haunted place in Sydney. If you’re brave enough, you can book a ghost tour around the buildings or spend the night in a haunted bedroom overlooking the harbor (speaking from experience, this is best handled with a few glasses of wine before bed). Another frequently mentioned haunted site is Cockatoo IslandEx-convict penitentiary in the middle of Sydney Harbour.

For more thrills and chills, take your East Coast ghost tour to Queensland, Australia’s second spookiest state for paranormal activity. brisbane 16 of the 74 paranormal events in the state are individually explained; Cold spots and unexplained noises have been reported at the infamous Boggo Road Prison, and a white-suited ghost has been seen wandering the historic prison.
