Suffolk ‘one of the safest counties in England’ as knife crime falls

Total crime recorded in the 12 months to June 2024 also fell by 7.4% to 59.9 crimes per 1,000 people, with around 46,000 crimes reported.

Bosses at Suffolk Police said this made Suffolk one of the top three counties in the UK where people are least likely to become victims of crime.

Suffolk police and crime commissioner Tim Passmore said: “These are very positive statistics showing that Suffolk is one of the safest places.

“I realize these statistics may be of little consolation to anyone who has been a victim of crime, but this is good news for Suffolk as a whole.”

In addition to knife crime, there was also a decrease in reports of cycling crime (-24.1%), stalking and harassment (-24.1%), public order (-18.4%) and robbery (-14.6%).

Drug offenses (-12.1%), sexual offenses (-4.5%), domestic burglary (-3.8%), criminal damage/arson (-2.2%) and weapons possession (-1%) like.

Reports of burglary (+0.2%), vehicle crimes (+1.4%), larceny (+2.3%) and shoplifting (+7.7%) increased slightly, while non-residential theft increased by 12.4%.
