Maine DOT receives $1 Million through EPA Clean Ports Program

MAINE (WABI) – The Maine Department of Transportation has been selected to receive one million dollars through the EPA’s Clean Ports Program.

The Climate and Air Quality Planning grant will help MaineDOT explore the feasibility of shore-based power distribution and electrification of port equipment for cruise and cargo ships at ports around the state.

MaineDOT plans to develop emissions inventories at ports in Portland, Eastport, Searsport and Rockland.

The DOT says Maine ports are vital to the U.S. economy because they move goods and people across the country.
