US base in eastern Syria was bombarded — TV – World

BEIRUT, 31 October. /TASS/. A bombing attack was carried out on the US military base near the Al Omar oil field in Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria. El Mayadeen television reported.

Details of the incident are unknown at this stage.

Earlier, Syria’s Damascus FM radio reported that an explosion was heard in the vicinity.

Large parts of Syria’s Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa provinces, located in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country, are now controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-led coalition backed by the United States. Since 2015, the US command has established nine military bases in this region. In late 2019, then-US president Donald Trump approved a plan that would see hundreds of US troops remain in Syria to control oil fields in Syria’s northeast and east. Damascus condemns the US military presence on its territory as an illegal occupation.

Following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, Shiite troops intensified missile and drone attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria, demanding that the US stop providing military aid to Israel.
