South London club closed after 24-year-old man killed in ‘fight outside venue’ – Southwark News

A club in Clapham has been closed after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in a ‘fight outside the venue’.

Lambeth Council said it had ‘lost confidence’ in the management of the Dirty Blonde Club on Wandsworth Road following the incident in which Dontae McLaren was killed in September.

The council ordered the club’s temporary closure in early October after the Metropolitan Police said it was concerned further violence could occur if the venue remained open.

Dynzell Patrick, 26, was charged with murdering Mr McLaren on October 3. He will appear at the Central Criminal Court on December 23.

Tyanne Corbin, 25, and Hamid Hamdi, 25, appeared at the Central Criminal Court on October 14 on charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Mr McLaren and violent disorder. They will appear at Kingston Crown Court on November 6.

A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and causing grievous bodily harm is currently on bail.

The Met, which requested a review of Dirty Blonde Club’s license, said it was concerned that the club’s management was not in good standing. In documents submitted to the council in October, the Met wrote: “Police currently have concerns about how this venue is being managed, as knives have been detected inside the venue despite reportedly having a robust search regime in place, as well as a lack of CCTV.”

Announcing the decision to cancel the club’s license on Friday (October 25), Councilor Adrian Garden, chair of the licensing hearing, said: “Members decided that there was sufficient evidence to show that the existing license had been breached, indicating that the premises were being operated. in a way that is detrimental to licensing objectives.

“Unfortunately, members were not satisfied that the premises licensee could be trusted to operate the premises consistently in line with the licensing objectives. Members were not satisfied that other, less burdensome steps presented to them were likely to achieve this ultimate goal. Therefore, cancellation is the only viable option.”

Dirty Blonde Club was previously open until 4.30am on weekends and 2.30am on weekdays. The licensing committee heard all evidence in secret due to the ongoing criminal investigation into Mr McLaren’s murder.
