Trial scheduled for suspect accused of stealing a vehicle at gunpoint

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A trial date has been set for a man accused of stealing a vehicle at gunpoint.

On Monday, October 28, Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Scott Ellington signed a scheduling order for 20-year-old Daquon Kentrell McCarther during the hearing. In the decision, the motion and defense date was set as Friday, November 15, and the jury trial will begin on Monday, December 9 and end on Friday, December 13.

McCarther faced aggravated robbery and vehicle theft charges after police received the report. A car was stolen on Melrose Avenue in September.

The victim told police McCarther attacked two people and pointed a gun at the victim. Officers later found McCarther at an apartment on Belt Street.

Officers also arrested 24-year-old Margarita Jasmine Rocha, who is accused of hiding McCarther in an apartment where he was staying. He later admitted that McCarther was hiding there.

Court documents state Judge Ellington signed an order on Oct. 28 allowing Rocha to be acquitted of aggravated robbery and barring arrest or prosecution charges.
