Laurel police investigating burglary at Read Drugs

LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) – The Laurel Police Department is searching for a suspect following an early morning theft.

The incident happened at Read Drugs on Mississippi Highway 15.

This is the same pharmacy that was attacked in February when a large quantity of narcotics were stolen.

The department said officers responded to Read Drugs around 4 a.m.

We learned they found a white Ford F-150 truck had crashed into the front of the store.

The male suspect escaped from the police and ran away.

It was later revealed that the truck had been stolen earlier that morning.

“We don’t know if any drugs were taken from the establishment,” Capt. Michael Reaves said.

“Obviously the pharmacist and staff will need to do a full audit, but anyone who has prescription-based information about anyone trying to sell drugs in their community could be information that could be very important to us in this investigation.”

The department is still gathering video evidence to identify the suspect.

If you have any information, you are asked to contact the Laurel Police Department or Crimestoppers.
