Restaurant cook hacked to death after fight over fish curry in Bhubaneswar

A cook at a restaurant in Damana Square in Bhubaneswar was allegedly killed by a staff member after a minor fight over fish curry. The deceased was identified as Pitambar Jena from Sorada in Ganjam district.

Allegedly, the defendant first hacked the cook with a ‘fish knife’ and tried to hide his body to erase the evidence. On being informed, Chandrasekharpur police detained the accused and initiated further investigation into the incident.

According to sources, Jena and the defendants were working at the restaurant called ‘Hotel Maa Taradei’ in Damana Square. On Tuesday night, the defendant got into a fight with Jena after she refused to eat fish curry for dinner. Things took an ugly turn as the verbal argument quickly turned physical.

The defendant allegedly took a ‘fish knife’ and hacked Jena to death. Sources said he even tried to hide Jena’s body to erase evidence.

The incident sparked outrage in the area, with relatives and family members of the deceased taking to the streets in Damana.

“He had been working at the restaurant for the last 15 years. We are not sure if they had any previous hostilities or if they were drunk. A relative of the deceased said, “All we want is justice.”
