Man who sexually abused his girlfriend’s son for nearly 10 years was sentenced to 17 years in prison

PLANO, Illinois — A Kendall County man who has already been convicted of sex crimes will serve more than a decade in prison for sexually abusing his girlfriend’s son for almost a decade.

Judge Robert Pilmer sentenced Jose Juarez-Hernandez, 69, of Plano, Illinois, to 17 years in prison last week for two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to Kendall. County State’s Attorney Eric Weis.

Weis said Juarez-Hernandez was found guilty after a trial in April 2024.

The crimes were first reported to police in July 2020, when the now-adult victim reported to Plano police that Juarez-Hernandez, her mother’s boyfriend at the time, had sexually assaulted and sexually assaulted her since she was 15 years old. 5 to 13 years old.

Prosecutors said the victim told officers Juarez-Hernandez “committed multiple acts of sexual intercourse” while at her home in Plano.

Prosecutors said the victim only contacted police while seeking treatment for her trauma.

Juarez-Hernandez was previously convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of a teenage girl, according to prosecutors. The victim testified at his final hearing, and prosecutors said his testimony “was instrumental in obtaining a guilty verdict.”

Under state law, Juarez-Hernandez will serve approximately 13 and a half years in prison before becoming eligible for mandatory supervised release and lifetime sex offender registration.
