Uber Defends Driver Accused of Snacking on Customer’s Food and Spitting in His Face: Police

An Uber Eats driver was arrested in Polk County, Florida, after authorities allege he ate food from an order and then stole holiday decorations from a customer’s yard. He then spat in the customer’s face, police said.

A Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrest report obtained by PEOPLE alleges that driver Alexsandra Del Valle Acosta Aguilar was seen by the customer “removing food from the bag she had ordered” while making a delivery outside the customer’s home shortly before midnight on September. 12.

The customer told police he later walked outside his home in Davenport, Florida, and noticed Aguilar holding a “Happy Fall to All” sign in his yard, according to the arrest affidavit. Police said the customer also noticed other holiday decorations, including a pumpkin pillar, had been moved and were now sitting next to Aguilar’s vehicle.

When the customer approached Aguilar and took the sign away from her, the Uber Eats driver allegedly spat in the woman’s face following an argument. Aguilar then stuffed the stolen items into the car and drove away, according to the arrest affidavit.

The alleged victim claimed the four stolen decorative pumpkins were worth about $75 each, according to police, who allege Aguilar stole a total of about $330 worth of decorations from the Davenport home.

Aguilar faces charges of burglary of a home and grand larceny, according to police, who said he admitted to delivering orders to the address where the alleged incident occurred. Police said Aguilar was arrested “based on the victim’s statement, the suspect’s statement, and Uber Eats records.”

PEOPLE reached out to Uber Eats for comment but did not immediately hear back.
