Deputies from the Congregation of St. John the Baptist search for ‘I saw a bandit’

ST. Congregation of John the Baptist, La. (WGNO) — St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for a “saw bandit” accused of trying to steal money from ATMs.

On Oct. 12, SJSO alleges that a group of individuals attempted to break into a LaPlace bank ATM using construction tools such as a crowbar and a “heavy-duty cutting saw.”

SJSO officials said their attempts to get money were unsuccessful; However, ATMs were damaged.

Detectives with SJSO, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the suspects and vehicle using surveillance footage.

Daniela Lucas, 37, was arrested Oct. 23 after detectives identified the owner of the vehicle believed to be involved in the attempted theft, according to SJSO. Lucas faces a felony charge of simple theft.

SJSO deputies said they are still searching for 32-year-old Alfred Roy Cobb in connection with this investigation and other ATM thefts in other neighborhoods. Detectives said Cobb “is believed to be the mastermind of the ATM thefts.”
