Harris Criticized Trump as a ‘Vile Tyrant’ and Called for a ‘Next Generation of Leadership’

With a week to go until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her closing message to a massive rally of 75,000 people gathered at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C.

As the White House lit up behind her, Harris urged the excited crowd and watching Americans to embrace the “next generation of leadership” as she called for unity across parties. “We love a good debate,” he said. “And just because someone disagrees with us doesn’t make them the enemy within. They are family, neighbors, classmates, co-workers. “They are fellow Americans, and as Americans we rise and fall together.”

“America, we have been consumed with too much division, chaos and mutual distrust for too long,” he said. “And then it can be easy to forget a simple truth: It doesn’t have to be this way. We need to stop finger pointing and start locking arms. It’s time to turn the page on drama, conflict, fear and division. “It’s time for a new generation of leadership in America.”

Harris laid out two starkly different visions for the nation. “Look, we know who Donald Trump is. “He is the person who stood on this very spot nearly four years ago and sent an armed mob into the US capital to subvert the will of the people in a free and fair election,” he said. “Unlike Donald Trump, I do not believe that people who disagree with me are enemies. He wants to put them in jail. “I will give them a seat at the table.”

Towards the end of her fiery speech, Harris said, “America was born when we took freedom away from a petty tyrant,” referring to Republican candidate Donald Trump. “Generations of Americans have preserved and expanded that freedom, and in doing so have proven to the world that a government by and for the people is strong and enduring.”

In recent weeks, Harris and her surrogates have sought to emphasize that Trump remains a threat to democracy and would rule the country in an authoritarian manner if allowed to return to power. Tuesday’s choice of venue was no coincidence.

One Interview with CNNHarris Campaign Manager Jennifer O’Malley Dillon said the decision to deliver the speech at the Ellipse was a deliberate callback to Trump’s rally on Jan. 6, 2021, at the site where the former president fueled the violent attack on the Capitol.

“This really reminds us of the seriousness of the situation and how much a president can do, for good and bad, to shape the country and impact people’s lives,” he said. “But it’s also a striking visualization of probably the most infamous example of Donald Trump and how he abused his power, really focused on himself, spread division and chaos, and incited a mob to protect his own power and take over himself. country.”

Trump is also trying to make a bold statement at his own campaign closing events. On Sunday, the former president held a violent, hate-filled rally at Madison Square Garden, the city’s iconic entertainment venue.

Speakers took part in the rally made racist jokes about Latinos, Puerto Ricans, and Black Americans; Trump advisor Stephen Miller’s statement that “America is for Americans and for Americans only”; and the sarcastic description of Harris by Tucker Carlson as “the first Samoan-Malaysian low-IQ former California prosecutor to potentially be elected president.” Trump repeated his standard attacks on immigrants and once again doubled down on his promises. Clear the “enemy from within” From American civil society.

The rally received intense response, especially from prominent celebrities and members of the Puerto Rican community. Fighting the Trump campaign and other Republicans distancing themselves from the comments of the former president’s guests.

The contrasting visions of the two campaigns could not be starker as the candidates seek to end a tumultuous election season with a bang.
